Update for first day of school

Dear Families,
As we enter into the long weekend, there are a few pieces of information that we would like to share with you.

Welcoming our Newest Little People:
On Tuesday we welcome our primary students to ALJ- such an exciting time for many of our families and students. Primary teachers will be waiting for their students along the side of the school- directly behind the walker drop off. Mr. Jennings, our school counsellor will greet the primary students, taking them to their teacher. Due to public healthy safety protocols that we must all follow, parents are not permitted to go past the walker drop-off. We understand that this may be difficult for some families- Please know that we are here to support in any way that we can.

Our primary PowerPoint has been update and can be found on the PARENT LINKS PAGE

Pre Primary:
The families of our pre primary students will be contacted within the next day or so and arrival plans will be reviewed.

Supplies for the first week:
Unless something else has been communicated through your child’s classroom, please send the following items in for the first day of school- in kit box.
• A glue stick
• Scissors
• Something to colour with
• A pencil

Parking Lot:
For the shared safety and health of all students and staff, families are not able to enter into the school parking lot between 7:40 and 8:30 and 1:30 and 2:45. Thank you for working with us to help keep everyone safe.

Bussing Information:
It will be very important for you to know which bus your child will be travelling to and from school on. If this information has not been confirmed, please ensure that your child’s teacher has this information for the first day of school. Getting our kids home safely is a top priority.
Monitoring Your Child’s Health
Our shared health is our shared responsibility. We need families to monitor the health of their child(ren) each day before they come to school using the COVID-19 Daily Checklist. A copy of the checklist is attached. If you child is not feeling well, even if symptoms are mild,  it will be very important to keep him/her at home and contact 811. Please remember, by monitoring daily, you are doing your part to protect our shared health.

Facemasks
All students (PP-Grade 12) will be required to wear a mask when travelling on the school bus.

When at school, all students Grades 4 to 12 (including Grade 3 students in a combined class with Grade 4s) will be required to wear a mask. Children in Pre-Primary to Grade 3 are not required to wear a mask in school.

Masks can be removed when students are eating and drinking or taking part in indoor physical activity when a mask cannot be worn. Masks are not required during outdoor activities.

On Tuesday, each child will receive two cloth facemasks. We will also have a supply on hand if a child forgets or loses one during the day.

We wish you all a happy and relaxing long weekend!

Warm Regards,
Your ALJ Admin Team
