Check out our new week at a Glance

Dear Families,

Today we had our first hold and secure drill and students and staff did an outstanding job. On Thursday we will have our lockdown drill. Teachers will review lockdown procedures with their students prior to the drill.
A reminder that there will be no school for students on Friday, September 25th as teachers will be engaged in professional learning.

End of the day dismissal for walkers:
Our end of the day dismissal has been going very well- the students know our routines and are following them to a tee…great job kids! There has been some congestion with walker pickup, which has become a safety concern. All families are asked to stand on the grassy area along the driveway sidewalk, ensuring that the entrance is clear for bussing. Families are reminded that students can never walk in between buses or alongside (on the pavement) a bus. Thank you for helping to keep all of our students safe.

Curriculum Night:
On Wednesday, September 30th, our staff will be sending their Curriculum Night Presentation to families. In the presentation you will find an introduction for your ALJ Admin Team, messages from our specialists, curriculum links, communicating student learning document and of course an introduction from your child’s classroom teacher, including pictures of their classroom.

Safe Arrival:
If your child is going to be late or absent for the day, please ensure that you call safe arrival at
902-860-4375.

Arriving on Time:
Now more than ever, it is very important for your child to arrive at school between 7:55 am and 8:10 am. Arriving late means that your child is missing instructional time and needs to be taken to their class by a staff member. We appreciate your help in ensuring that our students arrive on time.

Inclement weather:
As you know we are spending more time outdoors to promote movement, socially distant socializing opportunities, and a chance for some to have multiple break from masks. Please ensure that your child comes wearing appropriate clothing for the weather i.e. rain coat. We will be going out if it is heavy misting but would not take our students out in heavy rain. With Teddy on its way, please keep an eye on HRCE.ca for updates or sign up for notifications by visiting the HRCE website.
Stay safe, warm and dry!
