Dear Families,

Hard to believe that we are into our last week in October- As the old saying goes, time flies when you are having fun!

Picture Day:

Tuesday, October 27th, will be picture day at Ash Lee Jefferson for all students from PP-5. Students are encouraged to bring their best smiles! After picture day, order pictures on mylifetouch.ca using your Portrait ID and Access Code which can be found on your Picture Day order form.

When kids are sick:

With flu season quickly approaching, we remind all families of the importance of keeping children home when they are not feeling well. In the past kids often arrived at school with a cough and running nose. Nova Scotia Public Health now requires students to stay at home and not return until they are feeling better. Also, your child must be well enough to go without medication for 24 hours before returning to school. Cold/flu medication cannot be administered at school.

Halloween:

Thank you for all of your support with our Covid 19 safety measures in school. In order to maintain the Nova Scotia Public Health Authority directives within our school setting we will be changing our Halloween celebrations. On Friday October 30th we will have a Halloween colours day! Staff and students are invited to wear orange, black, green, and purple. There will be Halloween activities in individual classrooms. Students can bring an individual snack for themselves. This year there are no costumes, mask or shared treats in any grades PP-5.

Crazy Hair Day:

On Wednesday, October 28th, we will have Crazy Hair day for all students in grades PP-5. Students are encouraged to showcase their craziest hair creations.

Traffic/Parking Lot:

Our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up is a very busy time. We remind all families of the importance of taking great care, ensuring that all of our students and families remain safe. Also, please remember that no vehicles are allowed in our parking lot between 7:45 and 8:30 and 1:35-2:30. Thank you for helping to keep our students and staff safe.

Nourish Food and Film Challenge:

We would like to send a huge congratulations to Grace Mimnagh on winning the Nourish Food and Film Challenge. Grace is a grade 4 student in Mr. MacLean’s class. We are very proud of you Grace. The video can be viewed at https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/community

Breakfast Program:

We are beginning our Ash Lee Jefferson breakfast program. It is a grab and go system for each individual classroom.  Mornings can be busy and sometimes children may start their day without breakfast.  Our breakfast program is available to all of our students.

November 20th: Assessment and Evaluation Day (No School for Students)
